Because the transition to capitalism was full of turmoil and generally was a social disaster for a lot of years. Their countries were more powerful and they had more to be proud of during the Soviet Union.

Granted most of them are into socialism but also a very far left version of it.
Another thing is that Russia forced communism on other nations, taking into account the amount of anti-communists Russia probably hosted too you probably wouldn't have a great majority slavs who want the system.
Russia was also dirt poor, the peasants were dumb (you can't blame them) and wanted change. It was also a new idea and it's not strange that a lot of smart people supported it because remember it's a lot harder to say something is really bad if it hasn't been tested to be bad.

Compare this to countries like Poland and Hungary which rebelled against USSR and the revolt was harshly put down. The only difference is Western Europe had NATO (aka the USA) keeping it non-commie while Eastern Europe had Russians keeping them in communism.
Unique mix of insufficient capitalism development due to various reasons (including lack of colonies for pumping resources) and well-developed (compared to the rest of the world) social thought. Also due to centuries of relative political stability, absence of revolutions and civil wars people haven't accustomed to fear the destruction of state and economy (unlike France and Britain)
