American movies and TV shows are objectivly much shitter than in the past 50years and objectivly much better than the past 50 years. With the while shitty reality shows might exist so does shows like breaking bad or curb your enthusiasm. The availability of shows on both ends of the spectrum, speaks to how much television and movies have changed to appeal to niche audiences. Where before shows were simply made to appeal to the widest possible audience(this is still evident today, with sitcoms still being some of the most popular non premium TV shows)

There are such reality shows in every country and there are plenty of quality TV shows if you know where to look.
It is just the resulting complexities of non-Americans being less innovative and creative than Americans and the subsequent outward disdain of our creations. America is the innovative and artistic powerhouse of the world and that makes Europeans very insecure.
