Gabes is an important location for a port and Europeans would find themselves fighting over it if that happens.
Plus, the Atlas promotes technological development and spread latitudinally instead of longitudinally. If you're going to cut it up like that it would disrupt agriculture and industry.

They divided the Atlas properly. It's impossible to divide it like that if Gabes lies within the same depression as the salt pans and there's a straight line dividing the two. It's just going to cause a host of conflict.
Regardless of whether or not Gabes is destroyed, there's going to be a port city there because of the geography of the area. And since it's flanked to the west by the salt pans the suburbs are going to expand in that direction.
Not to mention you're also dividing up the Tuwat with a straight line, so roads can't be built across the Sahara.
Essentially, your map means that if one wanted to go from Tunis to Tripoli he'd need to pass a disputed area, and to go from Annaba to Cydames one would either need to scale a bunch of escarpments or cross a border twice.

At least put a dent there, but it's really difficult to cut the salt pans up. You're making the area around Carthage somewhat of a panhandle, which in the case of a divided Europe will not be desirable at all.
And you've got to make full Spanish control of the Strait of Gibraltar and full Italian control over the Strait of Sicily work.
