Arab society at the time of Muhammad was very tribal, tribe was everything; life, wealth, security, family, etc. Muhammad comes in and wants to completely alter the way these arabs think about community. There is nothing against womens rights in Islam, so I wouldn't have a problem with that.
I personally don't have problems either with the LGBT community, they have constitutional grounds for their marriage equality claims, and as an American I believe the constitution is what should guide this country forward. That being I am a bit uncomfortable with gay marriage, not in the fact that two people who love each other want to be together, but specifically the fact that they want to use marriage to express it. Marriage is something that its deeply ingrained with the religious conscience of Americans, and even the rest of the world. I wish the LGBT would see that their fight for marriage equality is aiding in destroying a very important aspect of human culture. I'm currently neutral for marriage equality, however if they were to advocate for civil partnerships that would receive all the same benefits as married couples, I would support their struggle wholeheartedly.

My mother was an Arab from Jordan, I was raised with no religion only celebrating Christian holidays as part of British culture. My Mum was Muslim and some got into an argument with her family over an arranged married and left them, came to the UK and became secular. She hates Islam and Pakis.
