Why is Japan so poor culturally?
It's like somebody took a bunch of Chinese customs, fashion, musical instruments, and architecture threw away 90% of it, then magnified a few specific areas of them so they appear more important, then called it "Japanese".

There is no such thing as a singular European culture. The only exceptional cultures were the Romans, Greeks and Minoans; everyone else just hoped on what they did.

Japan became rich. But, the Japanese tends not to like showy culture basically. In addition, we tend not to like the bright color either basically. We tend to make a fool of people living an extremely showy life in Japan. It is because I feel awkward for a Japanese. And the photograph is Kinkaku-ji Temple. The temple is showy for a Japanese.
Of course it is one of the Japanese culture, too. And it get a lot of looks. But the Japanese does not want to stay all the time there.
Therefore Ginkaku-ji Temple is more popular for the Japanese. But, I think you may feel it just plain. But, we feel comfort for such buildings. I think that probably this is the sense that only Japanese understand. In addition, the Japanese hears various music now, but we choose the music by a place. We tend to play old music in such buildings. The Japanese will feel it unpleasantly if somebody drained showy music in such buildings. The music that you feel unpleasantly make Japanese comfortable by a place. Do you want to hear rap music and Eurobeat music in a church?
