What people call the 1950's 'American dream' was due to highly Socialist high taxation of the rich and corporations programs adopted by USA FROM USSR in order to keep people prosperous enough so that they wouldn't get ideas by looking at what USSR was doing in social welfare. In Nordic countries this was taken much further ahead, because any person could see the guaranteed employment, free higher education, healthcare, disability grants, paid holidays, proper work hours and other benefits those in East Europe enjoyed.
After the cold war ended the 'powers that be' didn't need those measures anymore and therefore you now have austerity, millions homeless and unemployed, militarized police, patriot act and minimum wage from 30 years ago in USA.

USA and its resources are owned, controlled and manipulated by Oligarchs. The Oligarchs dictate tax policies and the masses of Corporate welfare.
Food stamps and welfare are meant to pacify the poor masses and hide the fact that there are millions unemployed. Soup kitchens like in the 20’s and 30’s would make too obvious that there's karge scale poverty. USA is a totalitarian Corporate Fascist state.
That's why there are FEMA camps, govt handing out military equipment like candy to Police, dismantling Constitutional rights all to protect them from those awful terroists that USA funds and trains to overthrow other peaceful countries.
