I miss my southern accent
>>
I always wonder what it's like as someone who grew up upper-middle class in the midwest and then NYC to have an accent. Like I know people SAY that "oh you just don't think you have an accent because it's where you're from blahblahblah" but I really can't imagine that's the case. Like I constantly have to catch myself not falling into the accent of whom ever I'm talking to if they have a really heavy accent, like there's absolutely nothing to my accent at all. It's like I'm a blank canvas of boringness. I talk like a news anchor or those really fancy robot voices you can barely tell aren't human.

The New Orleans accent is very nice sounding to me, though it's hard to describe, because a lot of it is in inflections. For example, people will say "alright" as "AWWWWWWWW-rai", with a really long and drawn out first syllable. Apparently Northern women like it, but I don't know personally since I don't talk to many carpet baggers.

Really? From an outsider's perspective (in this case me) their accent is pretty recognizable
>>
>>52831165
I move around a lot so it changes.
I used to speak with an RP-type accent when I lived in Harlow, I sounded god knows how awful before that when I lived back home, now I've a boring transatlantic accent because I've lived here for 5ish years.
It's even become hard to pronounce some English words because everyone (understandably) forces Finnish on me and uses Finnish words if they don't know the English equivalent.
Like 'go back to Sokos and return these, you've a kuitti, the nauha is broken'.

Dreading going back home, where I'm from people hate emigrants because they think we fake our accents to look posh. The truth is your average street junkie can't tell the difference between a hipster and a person who lives abroad so who gives a fuck.

I like my Norwegian accent too. I have one with guttural R, which piss off other Norwegians.

I used to hate it when I was younger because I live in a shithole and sounding like I'm from the shithole I'm from wasn't all that appealing. For a few years there, I was considered "posh" by family and friends because I would make a point of changing my accent on certain words. I've learned to embrace and love it now though. I really like the combination of harshness and bluntness mixed with my apperance and voice and apparently quite a few girls outside of my city quite like the "twang" it has too, even though I'd argue it has no twang at all.

I've always been fairly good at pronunciation and accents and whatnot, desu.

Growing up it was more or less a three way split between speaking "general American" at school and with friends, mostly Norwegian (Eastern) with my mom and whatever language my dad felt like addressing me in when he was around. People are usually quite surprised when I say I'm foreign at all. I can, with confidence, say I'm able to pull off a pretty long string of different accents and languages to the point where I'd be able to fool even a native speaker. Be it in a really strong Joual Quebec French accent, Bergensdialekt or the standard suburban Aussie accent, I really do sound very convincing most of the time.
