I love skyscrapers too but it doesn't necessarily use less energy nor efficient, concrete and conventional building materials retain heat and the towers in succession blocks wind too.

They are easier to insulate because the heat just goes to the next unit, they can also be situated closer to shopping centers and workplaces. Retaining heat is a good thing, it signifies a good insulation value.
