I'll spoil it for you.. He didn't get it right :D
>>
>>52797978
there's levels of difficulty and the percentage of people who end up being able to say TH from languages that don't have it is quite low.
>>
>>52797978
whereas rolling r isn't hard, the way ppl try to do it if they don't learn it from birth is completely different than what you actually do. i literally just watched a 10 min youtube video and could do it.

thought they were proper black?

>>52798031
>>52798059
where the fuck did you get that information from? pretty sure it's quite the opposite, most people who learn english pick up on the TH sound pretty quickly, whereas all americans i met who had been speaking portuguese for several months still couldn't roll their Rs.
>>
>>52798148
being a native english speaker is where i got the information. and no you dont say TH correctly, other languages substitute a different sound for it instead. the most stereotypical would be French with "dz".

and i am 999999999999999999% sure i have more experience with foreigners speaking english than you have with americans speaking portuguese
>>
>>52798148
overall foreigners really over estimate their english pronunciation because we don't care too much about it, being that it's the lingua franca and you learned it.

but yea, likely your pronunciation is absolute trash but no one has mentioned it to you. since you're being a dick if you drop a vocaroo i'll have no problem tearing up your mistakes.
>>
>>52797868

Skuirrll :-DD
>>
>>52798271
Do you think Anglos can pronounce Eichhörnchen?
>>
>>52798172
the only american speaking portuguese you can judge is yourself though, whereas i can judge it from both sides. don't know about other countries, but i've never met a single foreigner who could speak portuguese without a foreign accent and yet brazilians will always make sure to compliment them and say they sound just like us cause we're too fucking polite. you're always dissing foreign accents though and most of you also don't realize that having an accent has nothing to do with how fluent you are in that language. my pronunciation isn't absolute trash but of course i don't sound like a native english speaker i don't fucking see a problem with that
>>
>>52798327
no one is going to diss your accent here, that's fucking bullshit. you might get a light bantz from a friend but that's it.

you are really comparing a dumb thread on /int/ to real life?

i never said that there's a problem that you have an accent btw.

the only reason i leveled with you about accents in english was cause you called me a fucking idiot cause i said that it's easy to train a rolled r, not that it is easy for me to pronounce portuguese.
>>
Only Greeks can do it too

>>
>>52798408
this, greek and icelandic are the only languages to my knowledge that have θ
>>
>>52798289
why would we care about an irrelevant language?
>>
>>52798372
idk i got sidetracked. look, you're just wrong if you really think rolling your R is an easier phoneme to master than the TH sound. the R rolling thing is so difficult that even some people who are born in countries where people use it can't ever learn how to pronounce it

This is correct, also Thing = Ting
>>
>>52798469
there's a small percentage of people who literally just cant do it. in english there's people who cant do our 'r' and say 'l' instead. it's called a speech impediment.

but other than that its not hard. just unintuitive.
>>
>>52798495
how do you saw "noice" ?

Aren't Americans kind of special with the "th" sound too? There's this English youtuber I follow and he pronounces "th" sound as "f", he is from Manchester

how so? vocaroo
>>
>>52798327
I agree with you. Language learning opens a new appreciation for foreign accents.
>>
>>52798584
my mic is broke but you guys say it different, from the other perspective you ever watch an english broadcast of EPL where the announcer says santi caTHorla. we elongate it cause that's how we pronounce it where you just do a little 'slap', best way to describe.
>>
>>52798578
yeah pretty sure people from south london say they are from souf london too. which made me pretty angry to find out they did so, cause when i took english classes teachers would always make a point to say YOU GOTTA PUT YOUR TONGUE BETWEEN YOUR TEETH WHEN PRONOUNCING TH, IT IS NOT AN F SOUND. and then those motherfuckers say they're from souF london. (i actually like their accent tho)

>>52798588
don't even know what you're agreeing with but that's true
>>
>>52796723
Mfw gave up on Spanish because I could never roll my R's
>>
>>52798637
RIGHT????? ROLLING YOUR R IS NOT THAT EASY, TELL THAT OTHER GUY GODAMMIT
>>
I liked the thorn. It should have been kept.
>>
>>52798578
We have two ways we say the "th"sound.
One is lightweight like in the word "thermal"
The other one has more voice to it and it's the word "the"
>>
>>52797978
not everything is trainable. the Chinese "X" pronunciation is not possible for anglos, as their jaw structure doesn't allow for the proper resonances.
>>
teef
>>
>>52798767
you're right. but all the other things mentioned in the thread are trainable (unless you've got a speech impediment)
