Because rather than having to choose between moving into a house that was built in the late 1860's or an apartment that was built in 1932, we generally still have plenty of land to build new ones on.

Also because housing developers want to build them cheap and fast.

You can build a brick-house if you want

There are places you can buy it or build it

But these wood houses give you anything you need. They are cool in summer, warm in winter. And they can be easialy reconstructed.

There's nothing wrong with wood houses. If properly built, they will last for centuries. The problem is that 'murricans cut costs worse than Jews.

The problem is that the houses are cheap only for the construction companies to build, they are not cheap to buy

For the same kind of money you can get a real house elsewhere.

Bulgaria is among the first places in the world in percentage of people who own their homes, you miserable faggots :)

Also, my americunt friend, I guess everything is cheap when you are conditioned that being a debt slave for life is normal and you spend money that you don't have

But in any case your "cheap" houses are actually at the price of real houses in real countries, so it's kind of a ripoff to get a wooden shack in Murricostan

>>52757168
One of the main reasons is that it's cheaper. But not just in the building aspect. At least in the south it would not be good to have brick or concrete buildings in the south due to the extremely high levels of humidity. It makes AC extremely expensive to run and inefficient. Not to mention that it also has a higher chance for mold and mildew to develop. Another reason was during the sunbelt migration (Yankee diaspora) to the other parts of the country, they couldn't build houses fast enough so they just threw enough shit at the wall and hoped enough of it would stick
>>
>>52761297
>emergency ammunition
>have to move couch, untighten screws, put ammunition in mag or whatever and then lock and load your weapon
>>
>>52757168
It seems like down south where tornadoes happen they would have different codes, but it doesn't look like they do.

I've been in construction for 15 years, we have maybe built 8 or 9 solid brick houses. I can only estimate, but they probably costs around 35% more than wood frame.
We can build you whatever you want, just pay us. We can build a house that could withstand a nuclear blast if you pay us enough.
>>52761580
That was built in the 1970's or earlier.
>>
>>52761773
But thicker walls mean better insulation, which in turns means having to use the AC less because the inside doesn't heat up as quickly as the outside. And mold isn't an issue if you vent enough, and when it becomes an issue it's a bigger issue in wooden houses than in brick houses because it can actually harm the structural integrity. The only rational reasons to prefer wood over brick are earthquake danger, tornado danger (tornados will destroy both likewise but wood is cheaper to rebuild) and poverty.
>>
>>52761929
It's more practical to use an empty space and insulation foam for better insulation then thick walls from what I know.
Also Americans are really about moving around a lot so they don't want to spend too much on their houses.
>>
>>52762087
Maybe they should start renting then. But that would be communism, right?
>>
>>52761929
No the inside would heat up worse. A lot of the heat comes in via windows. But with thick walls it would cause a greenhouse effect and make it terribly hot. The AC is always extremely important. If you want to live in Florida without AC you would have to get a special architecture style that sucked wind through it
>>
>>52759094
No wonder russia is sucha shit hole.

>lets build it shit so we can rebuild it easy when it breaks

How about making it good on first attempt so it wont break?
>>
>>52762087
>>52762128
A lot of Americans rent however if people want to travel around they usually buy an RV. Also a lot of people I know own multiple houses
>>
>>52762292
Lrn2 double or triple glazed windows then. Living in the 21st century and believing that there's no saving from heat short of air conditioning is just moronic. And yes, Florida is an extreme, but the majority of the country could live without AC if you started building your houses properly.
>>
let's have flying bricks during a tornado instead of flying wood, because that will make things better, or maybe dutch houses can survive 800kph winds
>>
>>52762304
Because unless you go crazy with cost that's not really feasible. A brick he use will be just as destroyed as a wooden house in an earthquake. But the wood house will be easier to rebuild
>>
>>52762337
>double or triple glazed windows then
All we have is double or triple pane windows, I can't even order single pane through my distributor.

There has been historically a very big negative connotation to not owning your own home in the US. It's been the standard "American Dream" for the past century to become a home owner; it's a symbol of success and only poor losers don't own their home. Once get out of college, your standard goal is to save up enough for a down payment on a mortgage for a house. As you could probably guess, this means there is huge demand for housing in the US, hence why such cheap materials are used; they allow developers to build new houses quickly, in large numbers, and most importantly at an affordable price for a buyer. There's a reason why the average price for a new construction in the US is around $250,000 and has over 2,000 square feet of space, whereas European houses can be double or triple the price for not even the same amount of floor space.

Why do you think we were hit so hard by the housing crisis in 2008? Because everybody and their mother were getting mortgages on homes they couldn't afford. The culture on home-owning is changing now, in know many people in their 30's who have never owned a home and have no intention on it anytime soon and Condo developments are gaining popularity, but among the older generation and to many still of the younger generation, owning a home was or is one of their biggest goals in life.

Places where hurricanes/tornadoes are most prevalent are ironically where some of the cheapest housing prices in the country exist. Giant flat swathes of land sold for cheap and developed cheaply. Developers go for quantity over quality because that's the only way they are able to turn a profit. Most Americans agree these houses are eye sores and look like shit 10 years after being built.

The benefit of these houses? They are dirt cheap and people can live in them on their Walmart tier wages. Seriously though, there are places in the rural midwest/southeast America where you can buy a brand new 3 bedroom 2 bath house for under 150k.
