Tbqh m8, there aren't that many differences between, say, Kentuckians, Tennessians and Missourians. Even a Californian and a Floridian are perfectly interchangeable, as are people from Oregon and people from New England.

There might be minor differences in regional cusine though, e. g. the pizza casserole in Chicago versus shrimps in shlob in New Orleans and Chili with Spaghetti and Cheese in Ohio.

Yeah you are pretty much on to us. We are not very different at all in Europe, it is mainly a thing we decided together in order to be able to talk shit to Americans, as we really are very jealous of your way of life.

Actually we all still speak Latin in daily life amongst ourselves, when there is no American around. We had some secret meetings disguised as EU bureaucratic stuff to the outsiders, and it went a little bit like this;

French: "I'm going to gargle nonsense words at the Americans and shout like that in their face and they'll love me for it"

GErman "pretty cool idea, I'm going to bark like a rabid dog then"

Slavs "guys we have the best idea, haha, like, we'll do the same but only use consonants, we'll pretend vowels don't exist.

different burger joints are not different food culture, neither is stealing Mexico's food culture

in USA every state uses common law system and has more or less the same defining characteristics in the law books of differing states, this is not true for Europe even though the legislation has been tried to make more unified through EU

I am somewhat inclined to agree with the people looking different part, but since Europe's countries have been molded by the people living in it, their culture is defined by the people who have lived in the area for more than four millenia. This is why a Finn can tell a Swede and a Ruskie apart and this is also why a Somali, even if Finnish born, is always an outsider.

Swedish behaviour and Finnish behaviour are already very far apart, excluding the small talk. Swedes are pretty optimistic while Finns tend to be more on the pessimistic side even though the countries have shared history for quite some time.

Sporting interests differ vastly. There's also quite some games in many European countries that are only played in that particular country and not anywhere else.

History's relation to the formation of culture isn't debatable you fucking faggot.

you see, there are regional differences in every country, even smallish country like mine can have traditional outfits/food/dialects which are different for every region, but these are nothing more than a small differences and deep down, we all share the same values (more or less), follow the same laws, have same traditions, folklore, celebrate the same holidays etc.

this being said, there is a huge difference between regional and national culture/morals/interactions etc.
I can travel 100km west and people around will speak totally different language, interact in a completely different way and so on, and if you think that this is the same think as a regional differences between US states, you are retarded

Good, just take these things to factor when you wanna ask yourself how we europeans are different.
>>
>>52755961
>Simply explain to me why any of those should only apply when you cross a national border.
okay lets autistically plod this whole thing out.

there may be differences between states in america and states in any given country. the real question is the extent to which they are different. what state you're from doesn't lend enough distinction from being pan-american, as no matter which state you're from you have more in common with another american state than you do with any given foreign country. furthermore, it's not a given that anybody abroad knows the differences between american states so telling them is pointless. it'd be like me saying to any given european "I'm Australian, but wait I'm from Perth! Don't associate me with those other guys haha." makes no sense.

also language was a big enough reason
>>
>>52754413
Everybody knows that here's the South, California, New York and the Midland in America. Beyond that four more precise differentiations are unnecessary for a foreigner yet I agree they matter for an American

>in USA every state uses common law system and has more or less the same defining characteristics in the law books of differing states, this is not true for Europe even though the legislation has been tried to make more unified through EU
All of Europe except for the UK uses civil law, and because of the very nature of the EU, there are laws every country is forced to adopt.
>I am somewhat inclined to agree with the people looking different part, but since Europe's countries have been molded by the people living in it, their culture is defined by the people who have lived in the area for more than four millenia. I do agree with you here.

Euro: Anon. So where are you from?
Burger: The US.
Euro: I see, so what brings you to XX country?

If they weren't interested or didn't care they wouldn't ask that question to make conversation. They'd ask a different question. But they always say "Oh, which state." Always.

But they wouldn't have to. How am I an autist?

When I meet someone form France, Hungary, Italy, Poland etc, I say 'oh, whereabouts?' Doesn't mean I care or know anything about the regional differences in his country, it's just small talk. And if you happened to have been on holiday there it gives you something extra to talk about
>>
>>52756729
>It's clearly something they're interested in

It's called making conversation m8, we're not actually interested.

Yanks wouldn't understand.
>>
>>52756916
No, it's not.
>>52756923
>do you do 'small talk' aka engage in conversation with complete strangers for no specific reason?
No, never
>how far apart do you stand when in line at a bus stop?
Depends on how many people are present. If there are only two people, they stand on the opposite sides of the bus stop, but not outside it's boundaries (like in that swedish photo). If it becomes crowded, people stand close to each other.
>is your national image of your given young man 'quiet' or 'withdrawn'?

>>

We have fucking loads of dialects and whilst say southerners and northerners are quite different they're still nowhere near as different as different fucking countries, only a stupid yank would say something as ridiculous as that.

I don't know if you're replying to the right guy or not.

I've heard from several Poles that there are no dialects in Poland except for Silesian and Kashubian, if I remember correctly.
>>
>>52757341
what are silesians, kashubians etc? hell with dialects, they speak entire different languages! but are still Poles and function in our society without a problem and are just like anyone else.

I was just using the UK as an example m8

Hell fucking Ireland and England are separate countries yet we might as well be the same.

How is that possible considering that Poland is not a tiny country like Luxembourg? Even in my region we have dialects.

Make conversation by asking something else then that you're more interested in. Is it that difficult?
>>
>>52757601
Hey, I don't know, I come from a small country with a lot of different dialects (seven dialect groups and hundreds of variations for every one of them; every village has its own variations) so I found it hard to believe, myself. I heard the same for Russian, once.

Yeah, we don't have much variation in language, it's on the level of variation within American English.

I would also say that Russia is overall the same everywhere. Regions like Belarus, Ukraine and Kazakhstan are also hardly different. Basically we're similar to the US in that regard.

Most of the things you claim are unique to US states can be found in most countries in the world. When it comes to culture, cuisine, language, dialects, history and so on many swedish provinces differ.

Strictly all of them are irrelevant because the only standard language is Russian, which everyone speaks. It would be like counting Native American languages among the languages of the US.

Speaking of Abkhazian in particular... it's kind of dying out last time I was in Abkhazia. The youth masters Russian and uses it to communicate among themselves more. They sound a bit weird though, like the foreigners here on /int/ use English, still it's Russian.

We technically do have "dialects" but they all boil down to maybe 4 regions calling like 3 things differently. Not to mention everyone's using the same fucking accent anyway. The only sort of unique dialect is the highlander one, since it uses a different accent (similar to Slovak one).

m8 its more of a confederation of states bound together through an overarching federal government, and we have general themes that are similar everywhere but each region is different. but yeah I guess since scotland and england is under the same leader they have the same culture.

It makes no sense. I have never seen a butterfly eating butter. It makes sense in Slavic languages because our words come from "flutter".
