Half English/French here. It's a bit confusing as I feel like French is 'normal' to speak with my daughter. My wife hates it, but I genuinely don't know I make a switch between the languages
My mum is English and my wife is Scottish. I speak English with my wife.

I honestly switch languages without a thought. My Dad spoke French to me. He's gone to meet his maker. But life continues. Oh well, are any of you bilingual?

Your kid will benefit from it, ignore the ladies.

Wishing won't change anything.
It's not too late to pick up another language. I was monolingual as well. Sick of it, I took the initiative to change that and am now near proficiency in my second language after 2.5 years of utilizing multiple resources.
I'm glad I did, it's a pleasant, productive challenge to take on and can be made a hobby.
The lack of verbal communication in that language has slowed progress, so if you know anyone who's bilingual it would be a good idea to consider practicing their language.
Duolingo is good for getting your feet wet and offers a varied selection of languages, but it's not to be heavily relied on.
