I was very suprised and also sort of confused when I realised that people in the Northern Hemisphere take their long school break in the middle of the year
It makes sense to me now, because people of course want their break during Summer but having the school year not follow the calendar year and not having Christmas & New Years in the middle of the large Holiday confused me at the time.
For school the summer break lasts anywhere from 6-9 weeks depending on the school (Private Schools typically get longer holidays), and then there are 3 short holidays over the year that last 1-2 weeks (State usually get 1, Private usually get 2) that break up the 4 school terms
Uni is 3 months over summer and a month in the middle of the year
