I rarely encounter any around where I live.
You sometimes bump into the obligatory black American GI but much like their white comrades, they seem to not really be able to participate in any social life outside of base.
I have met black foreign students at my hometown university but they complain about Germans on the one hand being very polite but on the other hand being very estranged at the look of black people in general.
Then there's a small bunch of refugees but for now, I think, the regional conservatism and paternalistic treatmeant of them ("We help you but stick to yourself"), of which I approve, has contained them.

There's been a black community in Nova Scotia for about 300 years, they were West Indians who served the British Empire. There were also the American slaves who came to Canada to escape slavery. They make up the bulk of the old Black Canadians who have been here for hundreds of years.
In my province, Alberta, a group of several hundred African Americans were given royal charter to establish a town, and they did. There's nothing remarkable about it aside from they were African American. The Dominion would give almost anyone who wanted to establish a settlement in the Prairies a royal charter.
Historically blacks were deincentivised from coming to Canada because they were seen as undesirable, so they were always few Iin number, but there have pretty much always been blacks in Canada.
Didn't see one where I live for 22 years (I live in the middle of nowhere), now I see plenty of them, somalians and eritrians being settled in my town

I've found sources discussing the post-war German community (which seemed to be around 20,000 German-born-residents both jewish and non-jewish), but the information about the 19th and early 20th centuries is very limited. I know there's got to be a decent number of them but I can't find anything backing 7 million.
