>I'm not a Buddhist. In fact, I despise Buddhism.
>>52655799
>I'm not a dumb Christian, in fact I'm a Buddhist
I have literally never heard a fedora say that.
In fact, fedoras are often atheistic Buddhists themselves, as that allows them to rebel against Mommy twice.
>>52655799
I don't think anyone hates Buddhists m80
>>52657712
Muslims do.
>>52657533
>atheistic Buddhists
All Buddhists are atheistic in terms of not believing in some creator-ruler god. I think you meant "secular".
>>52657712
RELIGION IS OPPRESSION types hate us. Other religions sometimes hate us too.

Aren't there some minor sects that do believe in a creator?
Regardless, secular was the word I was looking for. Thanks.
>>52657712
No.
t. Everyone in Myanmar

>Literally wat
>wat
Why not? Also have a wat.
>>52657863
They gay only for this single quote "DON'T FOLLOW WORDS BLINDLY".
As soon as you're talking about rebirth - one of the key ideas of Buddhism they're going full "NAH I WILL TAKE ONLY GOOD SCIENTIFIC PARTS!"
Buddhism is princely in origin. It would be likely wrong to assume nature of the founder dictates characteristics of a religion but it might be a fitting religion in the so-called first world countries in which even the economically disadvantaged can follow easy life.

Is every consonant that guy pronounces a "sh"?
>>52657533
(you)

Oh nice wat, I think I've seen that posted before but I'm always impressed by the design
Anyway I just expected everyone from South America to be catholic, guess that's a bit of a stereotype though
>>52657984
>Aren't there some minor sects that do believe in a creator?
There're whole sects that believe in Hinduism-styled reincarnation and enlightenment through shamanic rituals - they call themselves "Tibetan".
Of course religions mutate a lot. Buddhism ideas are polluted and misused by people in general in every country where it's the dominant religion.
And now New Age chicks and fedora wearers are getting confused even more, uh.
>>52658088
>Anyway I just expected everyone from South America to be catholic, guess that's a bit of a stereotype though
Well, they like to report themselves as "catholics". I don't think they're very catholic in their core world views.
Anyway, we're educated enough to switch philosophies and religions.
>>52658205
>I don't think they're very catholic in their core world views.
You could probably say this about most self-reported christians. I hate when people use religion in an attempt to label themselves as good people. It's pretty similar to how atheists try to use their beliefs to label themselves as intelligent
>>52657533

The truth hurts, doesn't it?
>>52657990
>they're going full "NAH I WILL TAKE ONLY GOOD SCIENTIFIC PARTS!"
As any rational person should.
>Why yes! I believe in phony make-believe gods, don't own hats other than caps, can't wield a katana and know less than 10 japanese words!
>>52658474
Nope, it doesn't.
Religion IS oppression. Buddhist countries are not living much better than Christian countries. Buddhist monks are doing really bad things sometimes.
But that's not a reason to miss a chance to look into Buddhist philosophy made from rationalism and logic.
Buddhism as a religion for its philosophy is like popular opinion about science for a true science. Hysterical in general and misused a lot.

>As any rational person should.
I can't see what's not rational with rebirth.
In Buddhism you have no soul. You're a vortex of events on a stream of the universe. So when this vortex is broken - "water" goes further and can get into other things.
It's a purely philosophical concept but even if you don't want to believe in it then you can use Buddhist practices to achieve a more happy state in this life.
>>52658659
That's deep
>>52658810
Anyway, the core point of Buddhism is to cease suffering and stop the cycle of rebirths as a consequence (that's called nirvana).
If you see a Buddhist who's speaking and acting in a way that creates more suffering - he's just missing the point completely and probably does not practice things Buddha said us to.
*tips*
>took a world religion course as an elective in uni
>spend the first half of that semester taking about Eastern religions
I wish I brushed up more on Buddhism lately, as >>52658659 is right in a sense. A life of moderation can help achieve a more happier state in life.
Haha, now I'm look as a samefag.

The only peaceful religion in the world is the Svetambara sect of Jainism.
But who the fuck wants to devout their life to asceticism? Fuck that.
>>52659121
Buddhism is peaceful too. But anything can be twisted to be used for violence. Even Jainism.
