They had distant Tuscan origins (at elast the father), that doesn't mean he was Tuscan, he probably had much Corsican blood in him, plus tuscans and corsicans are pretty close genetically to begin with.

He was Corsican, from what we know of his letters probably only "felt" French out of interest, spoke with a strong Corsican accent for all his life because he learned the language quite late, and once in exile just surrounded himself with Corsican friends, speaking only Corsican with them. As the other French anon said, being Corsican meant he was French, and it's a really nice symbol of Republican integration right during the Revolution when such ideals of "you're French if you want to and embrace the revolutitonary values" were heavily promoted (reason why Alsace was considered 100% French, despite their speaking a German dialect and having a Germanic culture), but all in all it depends on how you judge someone's nationality. He's French in the modern sense, completely Corsican when it comes to language and ethnicity. It's funny that some people in Corsica claim him for themselves though, given the fact that he backstabbed them back in the days, siding with France when Corsicans were fighting for their independance.
