I'm a film student, so HK has a much more booming film industry. also the buzz of it all and the environment just so much more exciting. so many interesting characters on the street. it's like new york in a sense but crazier. Also have been to shanghai which I enjoyed in some parts

Taiwan is a developing nation and lacks much of the infrastructure, healthcare, education and services that we take for granted in the developed world. I don't believe it to be a good place for a white man to live. There are massive language barriers and little to no white people living there. The countryside, coastal regions and hot springs are wonderful. Worth vacationing there but certainly not living there.

The place in the picture is part of a really old district so more popular locations like Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui may look somewhat different. Pic related is Causeway Bay. Probably not the kind of cyberpunk you expected? I am just worried it will belie your expectations. Central and Admiralty look basically like New York so I would not recommend going there if you like cyberpunk.
