Melbourne is the trendy, left-wing city. Good food but they won't shut up about. Most of Victoria has pretty good weather, not as hot as most of the country. People are pretty much the same as the rest of Australia, definitely more tolerant/internationally-minded. Lots of nice little towns that are very accomodating to tourists e.g. Yackandandah.
