It comes from the pagan days.

On St. Knut's Day, young men would dress up as a symbol of a fertility rite, a goat. They'd put on a fur coat, birchbark mask and horns, and visit people's houses, possibly drunk, demanding food and alcohol. Later they started giving children presents and shit, and Nuuttipukki turned into Joulupukki.

do others countries celebrate saint nikolai?
we celebrate 3 entities in december.
Saint Nikolai who is on 6.
Santa Clause (christmas man) on christmas eve.
and Father Frost who is on new year's eve.

the biggest one are on christmas

Tradition says that he brings clubs or bats to naughty children, for them to be beaten with.

Sinterklaas is 5 december here. But you get events and presents in your shoe the weeks leading up to it as well, as soon as he enters the country.

Christmas is night is 24 december, first christmas day is 25 and second christmas day is 26 december.

We don't have any. Grandfather Frost is New year's hero, not Christmas. But anyway all holydays are merged and Russians are drunk every day for 3 weeks from Gregorian Christmas (24.12) to Julian new year (14.01) so it loosely fit I guess.

kerstman = coca-cola man

It should have been Sint-Nicolaas (Sinterklaas) but we celibrate him the 6th of december.

Before that, in pagan days (over 1000 years ago) he was also Old Man Frost like the rest of Europe.
>>
>>52585202
We also had this, it is what the Catholics turned into Three Kings (6th januari here). Kids dress up as the three wise men (traditionally one blackface) who came from the East, and ring doorbells, they receive candy or money.

Funny how the whole of Europe shared more or less the same pagan tradition before Christianity came.

Nowadays we have Sinterklaas (6 dec), Kerstmis (24/25 dec) and Driekoningen (6 jan) here.

People used go from house to house on Knut's day in January dressed as Knut's day goat (Nuuttipukki) gathering christmas leftover treats. Some of that tradition got absorbed into our Santa tradition
>>
>>52586326

In the catholic parts of germany we celebrate "Sankt Nikolaus" on the 6th and the "Christkind" on the 24th.
In the middle ages we actually celebrated Saint Nikolai on the 24th, then the reformation happened and the protestants started to celebrate the christ child on the 24th.

Now for some reasons that I haven't really understood yet, during the last few centuries, the protestants started to celebrate the christmas man and we catholics celebrate their christ child on the 24th and moved saint nikolai to the 6th. I have no idea how this did happen. Really weird.
As a catholic kid it's pretty neat though since you get chocolate and small gifts on the 6th and then bigger presents on the 24th.

>In Romania we celebrate Saint Nikolai (Nicolae for us) as well. He's like a lame Santa Claus that usually brings only sweets and season fruits.

He was the original Santa Claus, before the Americans and their merchant ally got their paws on it.

>Tradition says that he brings clubs or bats to naughty children, for them to be beaten with

Here that is the job of Zwarte Piet, his negro servant. In the Middle Ages he was the devil, who had to do the bidding of Nicolas as a slave once a year (because Nicolas tricked him into it).

The appearance of Saint Nick with his long white beard is just a lame derivative of the original Old Man Winter of pagan days, who also had a long white beard.
