Proof by helmet? There have been found hundreds of these in Slavic lands, Southern Spain, hell even Malta and Cyprus. Does that make the respective languages Germanic?

daily reminder that if your native language isn't germanic, you aren't white
>>
>>52575476
I find "et pas vous ?" to more natural than what the other anon said ("et vous non ?") but both are correct. If you really wanna repeat the verb, then you have to be really formal, so it would be "et vous ne l'êtes pas ?" ("and you're not it?", literally). But as I said, it's too formal, unless you're talking to your boss or your teacher. And even so it would be weird maybe, using "vous" instead of "tu" is polite enough by far in all situations.

Many "loan words" are from latin too, which share a common origin with French of course.

But it is still a Germanic langauge.

Scots (not Gaelic) is actually more purely English because it was not subject to Norman rule and has less French loan Words because of it.

Britain is like one of those Caribbean islands where the inhabitants speak creole languages except on a much larger scale and they take themselves much more seriously.

A surprising amount of that is still understandable, and assuming that's legit how they'd write, some of it is almost like a word-for-word transliteration of how we'd say it today, eg:

>Haroldes fæder wæs Godwin, se onwealdiga Eorl of Westseaxe.
Harold's father was Godwin, the (he?) [something] Earl of Wessex.

>His ǣreste wīf wæs Þyra Sveinsdōttir
His first wife was Thyra Sveinsdottir.

>Godwin and his ōðere wīf hæfdon twēgen suna: Harold and Tostig, and āne dōhtor Ēadgyþ Engla Cwēn
Godwin and his other wife had (had done?) two sons: Harold and Tostig, and a (an?) daughter Eadith [something] (Anglo-Queen?!)

English is Romantic. It has more words that are faithfully Latin than French does, and French also contributed to English. English may have been at one point Germanic, but after 1066 it became Romantic. Most words in English have their root in Latin:
>Eye - oculus
>Very - Veritatus (see Vrai/Verdad in French/Spanish)
>-tion - suffix from Latin for "The process of"
>com- - prefix from Latin "cum", to join together
>Spirit - Spiritus
>Respire - To breathe
>Possible - stems from Latin for "Can"
Near any verb in English is Romantic.
