The problem with the area stolen by the French is that it's monolingual; some people can still speak a strange Flemish dialect but everyone speaks French at least. If we took back that land we'd have to purge the French language.

nah, in the 18th century during the first aceh war they requested cannon, firearm and military officer to modernize their army in exhange for being ottoman protectorate. the ottoman somehow complied and managed send their fleet filled with cannon and amunition all the way down here in southeast asia, trained the the local acehnese who then proceed to beat the dutch and resisted their influence up until the second expedition in 19th century. even today you can still trace a lot of turkish military loanwords in ace language
