Vlach has the same origin as Wallons and Welsh ironically. It comes from a germanic word Walha witch refers to roman speaking people near the border. Slavs borrowed this ward, and the welsh got stuck with is because when the Saxons invaded they considered everything on the island to be "Walhacic".

I simply can't agree on your theory, which looks to me like a need for continuity of something ancient and new. I am more inclined to believe that they now share a lot with Slavs and that Romanians need to be realistic about it. They were basically circled between Slavs and then Hungarians. Meaning, The Vlachs that made the bulk of early Romanian polities were those who migrated northwards, towards plains of Wallachia. And not those dreamy and pastoral, beyond Transylvanian Vlach "nucleus" that unlikely survived Huns, Germans, Sarmatians, God, baby Jesus and the Great Flood
