If some young girl asks you in English if you want to have tea at a nice cafe she knows, just say no.

It's a scam. She is not interested in you. She does not want your penis. She is hired by a cafe to bring in customers. She will look for dumb ignorant-looking foreigners and act like she just wants to have a chat to practice her English, then she will take you to her cafe acting like she doesn't know the place. Then you will get charged like $35 for a shitty cup of coffee and a piece of shitty cake. If you're a true moron, then she'll keep up the scam and have you meet her at that cafe more than once.

Don't be a moron.

PS this did NOT happen to me. I just heard of this happening to others.

You'll have a good time if you bring the following:
>toilet paper
>hand sanitizer
>your own chopsticks
>diarrhea medication, antibiotics, condoms, basically all hygiene products you use

Learn some basic Mandarin and don't expect anyone to speak English (or taxi drivers to be able to read). Don't drink any water that's not bottled, only eat at busy food stands and be careful with what liquor you drink. Don't be an idiot and get scammed.
Ask a Chinese student to help you buy a SIM card for your phone with data; having GPS and internet helps a lot with not getting lost.
Also, smoking weed in public is a bad idea. You might just run into a police officer that won't believe your "oh I'm sorry, I didn't know I could not do that" excuse or can't be bribed.

This isnt even a joke and is an advice from an actual Chinese.

That applies to most traveling countries. Street food can be good though, you just have to find the busy stalls where locals eat.

I have vistied Guangzhou in 2012 and Wenchang/Haikou this mid year and im really shocked by how i was wrongly perceive on my ancenstry's homeland, I've never imagine Hainan island is way developed then what i was expecting. High rise apartments and condominiums are visible everywhere as far as the eye could see! I was expecting commie blocks desu.

The farmhouse where i lived was even easily accessible via new roads and of course high speed train which ran throughout the island. The locals where all living in ordinary shophouses or small houses in and around towns and i swear theres alot of construction going on, roads, piping, skylines and so on.

The only complaint that i have was alot of condos and apartments which where meant for their citizens appear to be empty. Yes i was living in a condominium 23rd story but seems like i was the only one in the entire 10 foors (To be fair i expect toilets outside of our accommodation to be like any other towns in SEA countries)

On the other hand, Guangzhou is just like Singapore without its persecution/law nonsense. Its like any other heavy urban cities in developed countries. Everythings expensive, crowded, heavy traffic, neon lights drenching the night skies and skyscrapers that stack up side by side jostling for living space.

Exactly! I've never encountered any shanty towns at all when i was in Guangzhou for a week. It was surprising as Guangzhou was such a huge city! Took me almost a day just to travel from one end to the other! Compare to Jakarta and Manila where you could easily find large sections of slums on its outskirts.

Shanghai dialect differs much from Mandarin and is both most fun and hard to learn, considering it usually takes a foreigner at least a year to speak not that broken Mandarin and OP is here on academic purpose he should forget about it as Mandarin is the lingua franca in Shanghai

Please, do tell, I'd really like to hear them.

Probably. I didn't necessarily mean learning Shanghai dialect though, mostly that one should probably know at least some Mandarin as opposed to just knowing French or English.

>>52508429
It requires a great amount of concentration for me to read, especially large texts. You can post the stories in Chinese, but translating them would spare me a lot of time and allow others to read them as well.
I guess you have them in some kind of image format though? No need to translate if it'd cost you a lot of time.
>>
>>52499283
Never try to help any local citizens.
The following is the story I've read here :
An American or something witnessed a local Chinese woman crashed by a car, so that he helped her and accompanied to the hospital.
Then, the woman lied that it was him who injured her, not to pay for the medical treatment of herself.
Finally, he ended up loosing several thousand dollars for his casual benevolence.
>>
>>52508850
I also heard that the reason Chinese people are often reluctant to help strangers in need is that a judge once pronounced a man who helped people in a car accident guilty because "he wouldn't have helped if he was not somehow connected to the cause of the accident".
