I visited Russia in 2001. I came back in 2012. The country is way better, because or in spite of Putin.
Russia is the most powerful it has been since 1990. They completely changed the world in 2014. America is not #1 anymore, and so you have seen a lot more restraint from our interventionists since then. I love that.

But he needs to get the fuck out of Ukraine.

Parents are from Moscow. His failure to establish the rule of law is the main one, his inner circle and those with political power remain above it. This is not just because they are too embedded and he simply failed to do it because he did not have the power to, it is because he himself benefits from this and so seeks to maintain it as his power depends on the personal relations and not the institutions. Mostly domestic, his foreign policy is mostly fine because it is realistic although his self inflicted sanction policy does nothing but hurt Russian consumers.

>>52487663
That is just oil prices. Actual growth based on production is hindered in Russia because the rule of law is weak. Nobody wants to risk heavy investment in a country which has no real rule of law.
>>
>>52487796
Their economy dropped 4% this year and 2% forecast next year.
Oil and oil products are 25% of Russia's economy. The 70% drop has taken about 5% off the economy.

It's still $1.8 trillion dollars larger than it was in 2000 when they had more people.

Ah, Moscow, makes sense now. Reasonable opinion regardless.
>>
>>52487900
No it really is not. If it was then Russia would have lost 70% of its economy as of today. Oil and oil products are 20-25% of Russia's economy circa 2014. It's down to 15% this year.

Rule of law? Rule of law comes with time and development.

When I was in Russia in 12' the rule of law seemed rather better than in 01'. I still had to grease a couple palms, but that was nothing compared to 01'.

Putin is no saint. Some people on 4chan support him because this is 4chan. But he is no devil. He has provided stability for Russia. Something it lacked.
The question is what about the future. I will lose all respect for him if he runs in 2018, or stays in political power.

This is stupid. If he is good at his job, i.e. managing Russia's affairs, and according to experience, he is very good at his job, he should not have to step down for arbitrary non-reasons. It's much better to have one person for a long term to carry out his plans, (provided that he's good at carrying out sensible plans), than to often have new people in charge, who will inevitably do things differently, and undo much of the progress of the previous government.

Russia has the problem of being former commie, full of durkas, and opposed by America. If Russia had broken up into a few more weaker pieces we'd have Poland 2.0

But instead Russia was still strong enough to be a threat even under Yeltsin so we left them out. You gotta have any enemy to keep the voters in line you know?

Rule of law comes from an independent judiciary and a police force which enforces law, not the whims of politicians and when nobody is above the law. This is not something which exists in Russia, it could exist. Rule of law existed in countries such as the UK or France when the UK was much poorer than Russia is now. Rule of law does not depend upon wealth, but on how the state is organised. I am not saying that Putin's rule has not provided stability, what I am saying is that it has failed in major areas. I say I hate him because he has no desire or will to do those things which would greatly benefit Russia in the long term. Instead he is purely selfish and maintains the status quo on this fundamental issue.

Except I looked into that and it's a lie. He did not score that.

Sanctions have next to nothing to do with your lack of comfort. You being born in a post-soviet shithole reliant on commodities is.

Agreed. Someone needs to replace him. Putin should have no run for President in 2012. If he does again I'll lose all respect for him.
Do you know of any replacements? Does Russia have a chance for a better society? Russians have to do that. We can't do that for you. We actually prefer Putin remain in power so we have an enemy to be nationalist against.

>>52488212
Are you the Moscow descended guy?

Putin needs to leave because he has developed a corrupt system around him, because, or in spite of his efforts to fix Russia.
People that say he only cares for his own power are idiots. Why hasn't he run off with billions like other politicians? He wants what is best for Russia, but he has been in power too long. Even the best can be corrupted by absolute power.

IN THE GODDAMN 25 YEARS none of the countries established normal market economy. People don't trust anyone. Police and officials are a joke and bribers. Prices for everything are climbing up with usd exchange rate (and wages are not growing).
But foreign policy tells everyone "we sronk developed gibe expo/olympics nao". And only plain citizens are paying for it.

Yes we did, the whole Yeltsin government was corrupt as fuck and were just looking for ways to get rich for themselves, disregarding the future of the country altogether. There were also many "advisors" from the US around the government. Putin pretty much saved the country in the last minute.

>>52488494
No I'm a different person. What he has achieved is probably better than what the alternative future would have been. Yes, power corrupts, but that is exactly why the next president will need to be chosen really carefully. If the next president won't be a similar figure to Putin, then he will inevitably weaken Russia.

>>
>>52488317
I disagree. Russia has made great progress on rule of law from where it was in 2000. That is because of the system and reforms of Putin's first two administrations.
Relative poverty is what matters. Not absolute poverty. Russia is poorer than almost anywhere in Europe and has been that way for a long time.
Spain and Italy are corrupt as fuck but they are rich. Same for the US.

I would say generally poverty leads to corruption and lack of rule of law. Lack of rule of law then reinforces poverty.

Back in 2012 I generally saw Putin as a good figure for Russia, but ever since then it has been downhill. Call it maturation on my part.
But I still think that he was better than the alternatives.

The best thing for him to do is to stabilize the economy, fight back against his oligarchs, and try setting up a decent transfer of power for 2018. If he can manage that I will begin to respect him more. If not then I will see things like you.

Bye.
