Do French Canadians sound different from French in France?
>>
they sound vaguely pre-revolution

plus their grammar is spazzy
>>
Yeah. There's anecdotes of how Quebecois visiting France are told to speak English because no one understands them.
>>
A lot different I couldn't even understand some people
>>
>>52480810
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2V3NrvThlg

try this and point out differences
>>
Are you retarded? You think two groups of people separated by an ocean and hundreds of years of development are going to sound the same just because they speak the same language?
>>
>>52480909
Now now, Canada. It's winter break for children in America. Give him a pass.
>>
>>52480909
No, i figured they did. I'm just trying to get a conversation started because I was interested.
>>
>>52480909
well americans sometimes sound very irish
>>
>>52480909
people from brazil and galicia(spain) can understand eachother fine.
>>
>>52480986
Okay fair enough.

Not only do they sound different, but their French is also different. Actual Frogs think Quebecois speak like inbred retards, from what I have heard
>>
>>52480909
leaf is angry that someone is asking an innocent question

standard
>>
>>52480909
American english is still very similar too regular english. The main differences pretty much come down to spelling.
>>
>>52481206
i'd say the biggest difference is cot caught merger but still some dialects over here don't even have it
>>
>>52481206
Yes of course, I was referring mostly to accents.
>>
>>52480726
>French Canadians

Since when Canadians are French?
>>
>>52481317
Only butthurt Quebecois call themselves that

I knew a guy from Quebec, he never once referred to himself as """"French"""" Canadian
>>
>>52481317
We have a designated province to quarantine those loony heritage fags.
>>
>>52481429
Do they love their connection with France just their Quebecness?
>>
>>52481429
>heritage
Stop the propaganda dirty bloke.
>>
>>52480726
Very very different
>>
>>52481206
Not to mention taking common sayings and turning them inside out:

>I could give a shit
instead of I COULDN'T give a shit

>Standing on line
instead of standing IN line.
>>
>>52483652
How does it compare to the difference because British and American English?
>>
>>52483977
I don't know, but basically quebec's french is a 18th century french, the pronounciation is different, the words they use are different, and they also use a lot of english words, more than we do.
>>
>>52483847

I never heard someone say I could give a shit or standing on line.

I've heard I couldn't give a shit or Like I give a shit and standing in line
>>
>>52484044
Actually the french use more anglicisms, the quebecois are just more paranoid about it.
>>
>>52484150
No. Quebecois definitly use way more anglicisms than we do.
>>
>>52483847
It's I could care less instead of couldn't care less. Not the example you gave.
>>
>>52481206
>regular English
>>
>>52484117
I have seen "I could care less" when they mean "I couldn't care less" in films and on the net, not sure about standing on line though
>>
>>52484150

False. We use a similar amount. The difference is that ours are part of a natural evolution of the language and theirs are just for show / didnt bother translate some concepts.

We sound like we use more because ours are just words that are used in more situations (verbs and such)
>>
>>52480726
I can barely understand what the fuck these quebecois say
>>
>>52483977
Movies in French Canadian are subtitled here in France.
>>
>>52484961
Sacre-bleu
>>
>>52485235

It's funny how you guys always say that and that you can't understand us. But whenever I see French tourist they always understand us (or me anyway) just fine.

I mean sure I don't have a rural backwater town accent but it's still a Quebec accent.

I think it's really a matter of slang more than anything, not pronunciation.

Show videos of French people speaking weird ass slang like chti or verlan and we won't understand shit either.
>>
>>52485426
French girl told me quebecers are very informal and use a lot of slang compared to France
>>
>>52480726
In terms of accent, it's not that much more different than the British/US accents.

But it's their vocabulary and slightly different grammar that makes it sometimes hard to understand.
>>
http://youtu.be/dw5Re7k1KBA

What do you guys think?
>>
>>52485567

Yeah I guess there is a massive difference between street speech and formal speech. I mean, no French person could claim not being able to understand Quebec news programs. If so they would literally be seen as retarded by everybody.
>>
>>52484315
>The difference is that ours are part of a natural evolution of the language and theirs are just for show / didnt bother translate some concepts.

Come on, this is true for stuff like the use of a verb like "to marry", which follow English grammar, but shit like "il a cancelé son rendez-vous" has fuck all to do with "natural evolution" and much more with "didn't bother translate some concept". It's even worse in fact, as it's not even an "untranslated concept", but a fucking word that has an actual literal equivalent in French.

>>52485426
>>52485567

A lot of French would have problems understanding some parts of this, for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA7XlMuR8Q8
>>
>>52480726
Do Americans sound different from English in Britain
>>
>>52485917

Nope, it has everything to do with that. It's slang. And a lot of people won't say cancelé, most nowadays will say annulé.
>>
>>52484961
Good.
>>
>>52484150
Hum...no
We use"ok" "cool" "weekend" and...that's it
>>
>>52485426
Is french or english the primary language in Quebec? Would I really get spit on for speaking 'murrican?
>>
>>52486412

Don't forget shopping.

Reeeeeee.

Also "cutter" for a box cutter.

If at least you pronounced these English words right.

Also pretty sure you guys say "pressing" instead of "nettoyage"
>>
>>52481429
DESIGNATED
>>
>>52486279
Only the midwesterners, everyone here has trouble with their accent
>>
>>52486474

French is the sole official language. English isn't even a recognized minority language.
>>
>>52481429
They got out man, source: my extended family members are all over New England and all refer to themselves as Quebecois-Americans (literally)
>>
>>52480987
Mate we have a shit load of accents in the US.

Quebecois are not only French Canadian, they are going to be the last French people left on the planet by 2100.

It's not because you're non-Anglo outside of Europe that you are muh heritage.
>>
>>52487101
m8 are you aware the map you posted is " "evolution of the newborn with risks of "sickle cells disease" after screening"
You probably know it's bullshit but I'm here to warn the inevitable "woah lol that's a lot of niggers"

What has happened to the noble scotts that once inhabited this archipelago?
>>
We have many expressions that come from our colonial era, that quebec didn't know, also napoleonian expressions, basically languages change.

You use "checker" for "verifier" unironically
>>
Quebec French are the biggest muh heritage fags.

They're such muh heritage fags that they insist that they're actually the true inheritors of the French language and France does it wrong. Kind of admirable in a way
>>
>>52484117
People do say "I could care less" and it makes me wanna kill them.
>>
>>52481206
*general American English is very similar to *general British English

Fixed that for you. The differences between the general accents is very small, but Britain is full of bum fuck towns where they talk in all sorts of obscure ways and there's a few weird accents here and there in the USA too.
>>
>>52488030
It's informal though. You are formally cucks.

I know, and you can probably guess what this map is. France doesn't have a large Indian or Greek population either afaik.

Worst than the "muh anglo master we wuz germanic emperors" anglos ?
Dem, son !
>>

Also I like how flawlessly says English words in an English (language) accent even when talking French; "bell pepper" "okay that's it"
>>
>>52488326
I'm originally from Québec and I understand most of what he's saying
>>
>>52488057
Actually Quebecers are the less muh heritage in North America with Mexicans and Dixies.
>>
>>52487811
they all live in Cape Breton
>>
>>52486474
i was in new hampshire over the summer and did a day trip to quebec province just to see it, in and around a town called magog close to the vermont border. i was never more than 20 minutes or so from the US border, and i was surprised at how little english was spoken. every person i encountered spoke very little english, not in a way where they were fucking with me, but just because it is a french only environment. my understanding is that when the economy tanked, a lot of english-speakers left so it is a heavily francophone region of quebec.

>>
>>52483847

Nobody in America says "standing on line" unless they're retarded
>>
>>52486767
They all consider themselves American first (the ones in America at least because a shitton of them stayed in Quebec, but they are pretty inbred as they all stay around a couple close towns) and then Quebecois second. The only consequence is that everyone in the family always learns French rather than Spanish like most Americans simply because French ends up being more useful for communication between the family.
>>
>>52488932
Standing on the line, maybe, but that means something different from standing in line
>>
>>52483847
>I could give a shit
That's just wrong. Only morons (inb4 all Americans) say it like that.
>Standing on line
That's just a NYC thing. It bugs the fuck out of me when my wife and her family say that. I sperg out and explain why they're wrong. They don't care.
>>
>>52489025
>Its just a NYC thing
I've never heard anyone in NYC say this.
>>
>>52489098
I've heard New Yorkers in person and in media say it. Maybe it's a class, race, or borough thing.
