Germany can claim history predating their nation-state because they always identified themselves as Germans despite being ruled by different kings and living in different countries. The HRE was always refered to as a German empire because it was dominated by Germans. HRE is just a meme name, for example Portuguese called it the "Império Germano", and before it it was called Germania, etc. It didn't change it's identity.
Turkey can claim medieval/ancient history. Turkic history. And they do. They don't go around saying they was Byzantines and sheit.
