Its not really that much of an issue. Our infrastructure is built around it, so most of the time there is space on the sidewalks to park bicycles. It can get out of control though, especially near railway stations. But is a nuisance more than anything.

it can be stressful and depressing but it has its own perks. you need a car to go to places and there's no public transport if you don't count buses that go every 1 or 2 hours (but not during night time, mind you)

Best image I could find. It's the latest addition to my hometown, supposed to be eco-friendly and all. In the best Dutch tradition, it's an artificial island built around the town's main road.
The town is alright, quiet clean and relatively modern. It was built on the bottom of a former lake that was drained a not even 200 years ago. That means I live 4 meters below sea level, at maybe 20 km from the coast. If the dykes break I'm fucked, but that has never really worried me.

Most of my hometown is pretty bland. It is basically a suburb to Amsterdam (1 hour away). The only historical buildings are some farmhouses, the rest is 40-50 years old at most. At least I live next to Alkmaar, which is actually pretty charming.
