Why do you think people move to places like Australia, Spain or California from colder climate, and why do you think we idealise tropical beaches over creepy, silent boreal forests or green fields and hedgerows over blistering, sun blasted deserts? I've been to temperate countries for rather long periods of time during both summer and winter, and IMO winter wasn't bad at all while summer was pretty much exactly the same as a normal day is here.
But I haven't experienced "actual" life in a temperate country, so I guess I might not be able to make a proper judgment.

I certainly agree with you. I have been to the tropics, and they were, fine. But it was not really nice feeling. The place I was did not really seem to have seasons, it was hot for my tastes and I did not really find it enjoyable. Interesting, perhaps, but not to live there.

I can see there being some sort of view on perhaps living past or close to the Arctic circle--I have seen studies that suggested that the lack of daylight has actual effects on peoples moods. But mere temperature? and based on the so arbitary figure of 14C? That seems silly.

If I were faced with the choice of moving to your hypothetical tropical Iceland, and real cold northern Iceland, I think I would move to the cold one. It is possible that I am in the minority, but I honestly would not really like to move to the tropics (it is of course possible that my view of that region has been influenced by other factors than temperature, and that with the addition of a very modern and progressive country there, my view would change somewhat at least).
