The Saudis have tons of cash flowing to groups the US might consider terror groups, but that's done mostly via private charities which the government prefers to ignore. They aren't apportioning a piece of their state budget (usually). nor are they sending intelligence operatives into foreign countries to blow shit up on a semi-regular basis.

We don't. But the Saudis coordinate closely with us generally, and our SIGINT is the best in the world. Fair to say we'd have sniffed it. Nor am I saying they never do; Qatar in particular is known for outright supporting terror. KSA not so much, but some of the groups they fund in Syria work closely with AQ.
Nor is what I'm telling you a facade meant to placate the public. Wikileaks, not known for being the most pro-US organization, released cables detailing our assessments of Gulf funding for terror. It read basically as: the Gulf needs to do more to stop private charities. There is no evidence KSA is directly funding terror, etc.

I wouldn't say that's entirely true. Although Shiites have (mostly) refrained from attacking targets in the West, they never minded attacking Western targets. They shipped IEDs by the truckload into Iraq to kill our troops most recently. Moreover, Iran didn't mind coordinating with AQ for at least 20 years. Even into the Syrian civil war, they had AQ operatives operating out of Iran, according to our Treasury designations. As early as the USS Cole bombing, there was crossover. And their shipments of arms to the Taliban have also been getting a bit more attention.
