Welsh is actually really useful in the western and northern towns in Wales. You could ask a random guy on the street for directions in Welsh and they'd probably understand. Plus it's often used socially too.

Scholastic words also tend to be Latin. Peann, scríobh, scoil, leabhar, etc. Also some time keeping (uair, nóiméad, days of the week) and odd words like obair and clann. Also words introduced from Norman French (food, castles n assorted shit) obviously tend to be ultimately Latin.
