I used to live in Anchorage. Actually I was there for almost 7 years.
Yes it's a total waste of money. I got paid $700 a month just for living there. This is true btw. Not only that but that $700 barely put a dent in my bills on certain months because rent is expensive, everything is imported obviously so milk, bread, eggs, butter, and everything else was outrageously expensive.
The government burns money over a candle supporting that state and it is all on the name of oil that they aren't even allowed to drill for in most areas. I'd never live there again.
On the flip side it is gorgeous. Would visit again for the mountains and nature but otherwise it is a shit show of conservative inbred retards who resemble Texas and Montana combined.
