You should use the swahili option on duolingo
Both english courses for chinese and japanese have been stuck on beta forever. We wont have the reverse courses until those two graduate from beta.

I don't know why Duolingo refuses to teach relevant languages (still waiting on that russian course) but there are tons of resources for Japanese if you're willing to look.
Most of the Japanese I've learned has come from the Internet, I only took a class because it gave me the structure I needed at those early stages.
Look up Tae Kim's Complete Guide to Japanese for a place to start.
