Can anyone tell me how to hear how 飢えなかった (IPA: u͍e↓nakatːa) is pronounced differently from 植えなかった (IPA: u͍ena↓katːa)??? Normally I can hear pitch accent shit with these homographs but these are throwing me for a loop.
Follow up question, when words are pronounced so similarly in Japanese, relying on a really subtle pitch accent difference, how important is context of the word to understanding what the person said?

I never learned German like you are doing it. I focused on vocabulary when learning Japanese at first too, but just because I was too lazy to learn grammar. I think it would have been a good idea to learn at least one grammatical concept a week.

1. Learn pronunciation so your accent isn't fucked. Learn every sound in the fucking language before doing vocabulary because it will make your life way easier later.
2. Learn the 625 most used words and learn them with their fucking articles because fuck German. Use mnemonics and shit to keep track of articles
3. Learn grammar by turning a grammar workbook into flashcards and testing your knowledge of the concept many ways. Use the POV (person, object, verb) strategy to keep these in your head like professional memorizers do.
4. Go into German threads on this site and write a ton so people can correct you
5. Find a site where you can Skype with a native German to practice your conversation skills
6. Read and get more words from that. There's also a slow German podcast you can start listening to specifically for learners.
7. Realize you have literally years to practice and you're not in a 15 week college course. Go fucking slow and don't rush. No one gives a fuck how fast you learn a language just like they don't care how fast you can suck a dick.
8. Enroll in an immersion course. They cost like $500 or something but they are helpful. If you've got the scratch, go for it.
Use anki liberally for all memorization. Go check out that faggot Gabriel Wyler's site fluent forever because he's got some helpful stuff for any language.
