on this day 100 years ago the ANZAC evacuation of Gallipoli began, Australian officers finally took command from the British and evacuated 83,000 men, 5,000 animals, 2,000 vehicles and 200 guns without a single loss of life
the British plan was estimated at 40,000 casualties
What is your nations most brilliant hour?
You think the evacuation of Gallipoli was our finest hour? Is this Australian brainwashing talking? I fail to see how a retreat from a bloodbath is anything to be proud of
> Australian officers finally took command from the British and evacuated
Ah, you're just trying to bait Poms. Carry on.
need to stop this meme, its important but we need to begin to move beyond this.
How come we don't share this celebration to other important australian things such as our scientists or our labour force

Labour Day and your relevant scientists are all in the USA

We literally singlehandedly defeated the German Empire
Nobody fucking cares. British "Empire" got rekt by bunch of underarmed villagers. Turks should be talking about it, not Anglocücks.
>>52291799
Meanwhile my ancestors were doing American stuff and not dying not for some Turk shithole.
>a retreat
>most brilliant hour
>>52291799
Oh, Canada's most brilliant hour was this year, because it's 2015.
Coming in at the last minute to win WW1 and then claiming victory for WW2 as well.
Hitting a guy about to tap out with an atomic fireball desu senpai
Some guy named General Curie beat Germans at Vimy ridge when the French, English, and Americans couldn't do it.

Really your greatest success in the world wars was making so much money from them.

I forgot how brave indonesia was in WWII
>not Kokoda
Nothing better than Aussies smashing the Japs in hell.
>>52292082
this tbqh
always thought it was strange that the rats of tobruk or the kokoda defence wasn't more celebrated.
a bungled land invasion and a more than successful retreat seems like the wrong kind of thing to focus on
reminder that england is to blame for all australian losses in ww1 and ww2
>>52296967
it's better if we all forget indeed
>>52291799
>be turks
>have every single advantage
>lose almost the exact same amount of men
>end up losing the war
why do turks talk about this again?

The Turks fighting were villagers with basic or no training given guns, living off of little food in poor conditions. I don't know if all of that is true for the ANZACs as well, but they can hardly be considered in an advantageous position besides the standard defensive advantage. They were also very busy with all their other fronts, of which there were many, while Gallipoli was the main reason for the ANZACs being brought into the Ottoman theatre to begin with
>>52298295
otto didn't have navy though. we borrowed german warships and used them to bomb russian port and join war.
>>52299763
>The Turks fighting were villagers with basic or no training given guns
you know gallipoli is right next to istanbul (the capital of turkey) right?
>>52299798
Wasn't that a Kemal false flag?
>>52299823
Most of the Turks in Gallipoli were routed there from other places. There were some from Istanbul, yes, but Istanbul had its own problems to deal with.
>>52291799
>getting buttfucked by turks
>australia's finest hour
LOL
>>52299823
They were mostly villager boys fighting with minimal food and minimal protection. Most people didn't have shoes or helmets, it was a sad struggle really, there were no real advantages besides having a good commander. Many people fighting were really young boys too, it was a sad war, an unnecessary war on all sides and everyone should be respected.
>>52296952
you would have lost ww2 if we hadn't helped desu
>>52298242
>671 killed

>white kids in the picture
oh they had white people that's why they won :^)
>>52298155
It is at Gallipoli when Australia begun to see more independent and Australian than British.
>>52292082
>>52298155
Yep its disgusting how Gallipoli is played up
We forget the WW1 ANZAC's at Polygon Wood, Pozieres, Villers-Bretonneux, Hebuterne and Bellicourt that smashed the shit out of German lines, captured back French towns and where often decisive victories.
>>52302679
Gee no shit
>>52291799
Australia's greatest hour is getting BTFO and retreating from a bunch of fucking Turks?
TOP FUCKING LEL
>>52291799
When will this meme finally end? The entire campaign was a complete shitshow, yes it was a """""successful""""" retreat but that doesn't mean much
