Islam is honestly a pretty decent religion. It's very similar to Christianity in many ways, and it preserves tradition against degeneracy. The only major problem with Islam is that many of its "followers" are violent cunts.

The problem with Islam is that it's a brainwashing tool. Muslims don't think for themselves or rationalise things, they just follow whatever their leader tells them to. It's why so many of them get persuaded into joining terrorist groups. The purpose of Islam is to conquer the world, anyone who disagrees needs to die. Christianity was just as bad at one point, although Christian societies became more mellow when they became safe from most foreign threats. Countries with Islam are usually in some state of conflict so they're never able to get past this stage of barbarism.

Unrealistically: I'd have another sect of Christianity influence Muhammad leading to him and his followers seeking to join discussions at the next Christians councils.
Realistically: The idea of a 'Caliph' that passes from father to son and the ability that an individual Imam can interpret the Quran is stupid. The caliph position is supposed to be non-hereditary and elected by the Ummah (Shias probably disagree) and scholarly consensus derived from discussion from qualified people should lead to a correct or nearly correct in-the-ballpark interpretation.
