So have they decided what pic related's NATO reporting name will be? I know it has to begin with an "f" for "fighter", just like bomber names have to begin with a "b".

>flies, most of the time, if you've got loads of people working around the clock doing maintenance'.

>>
>>52293454
True, modern jets need a lot of maintenance. But even compared to the F-22, at the moment the F-35 requires a lot of work to keep in the air. I'm not dumb, I know the people doing the actual design work are smart even if the people ordering the design aren't, I know the plane will work eventually after another two dozen or so cost overruns. But the F-35, as a project to develop a new fighter, is an utter boondoggle that would be funny if it weren't such a huge waste of resources.
>>

>>
>>52280377

>>
>>52293618
Agreed. But now it's too big to fail so we are going all in.
They should have just built more 22's and the B. The Navy is waiting till 2024 to have a full fleet of 35's so they could have made a navalized 22.

It's an example of mission creep and political fuckery.

Mmhmm. As a project to develop a new, top-of-the-line fighter, it's a miserable failure. As a project to funnel enormous stacks of cash into the military-industrial complex and its attendant systems of corruption, pork barrels and graft, it's a huge success.

Too bad you can't be like us Icelanders and have a total of three Bofors autocannons in the closest thing we have to an armed force.

>>
>>52294608
No it's not, the promised future unit cost of F-35 is $85m, and Rafale for example is €68.8m right now; Gripen is even more affordable. And do note, that's just the unit cost, i.e bare plane alone, the whole cost of acquiring any of those fighters is much higher as those contracts include a wide variety of different things making direct comparisons rather difficult.

Assuming the weapons on the wings are real and not made out of fairy liquid bottles, are those rear missile supposed to fire directly into the rear of the cockpit on purpose? The supports that the "launcher" is attached to has no mechanism, no hydraulics, to turn the missiles in another direction.

That's one interesting self destruct mechanism.

Nice fireworks at the lower front glued on too. The entire thing reminds me of that video of the African "ace pilot" who made Africas "first domestic helicopter using a lawnmower engine". The one where he is interviewed by a BBC reporter.

The thing I don't get about these African projects is, the knowledge of all planes, helicopters and tanks from their creation right up to a few generations ago is freely available. Why not start from the very beginning and get the basics covered so you have a solid foundation to make a real native version?

A WW2 era tank could probably take on that hunk of turd and the blueprints and decades of hindsight for any problems are all out there on the internet. As well as the benefit of modern tools, engineering methods and superior components being available for purchase commercially.

But instead they make a fibreglass covered gold cart and masturbate over how ingenious and resourceful they are.
