Theyre also building bases and islands dubai style to stake their claim on these waters. Philiphines, Japan, South Korea....basically every major asian power claims those territories. If China are successful, would this be a Crimea moment, were the west is shown to be weak once again, a sign that western hegemomy has ended and China could pretty much bully US allies in Asia into submission.

They can legally build on those reefs, they just can't in any way claim it as their territory. Artificial structures do not count as an extension of their territory. Those islands are in international waters so the sea and air around them are free to anyone.
The problem is they are claiming it and threatening anything that comes near with their navy.
