Tea and cakes and shit is actually a big and very important part of British social history. Tea rooms stretched across social borders and helped women come together to fight for the vote. The British obsession with sweets and cakes has a huge history and every region used to have their own very particular regional cake really reflecting its character and resources. It's also a reflection of our historic wealth and success.
The tea time may not be so prevalent now, but it's not something to be dismissed either.
