So I'm in the middle of michigan trying to learn to read Chinese. I've been doing flash cards for the first few chapters of a book designed for one semester, but I'm noticing that it's structured more around conversation, while i have an easier time remembering combinations of simpler radicals. For example, september being nine+moon.
Are there any resources that build up in order from the simple radicals? Kind of like how a chinese to english dictionary is organized?
Also, I'm looking for resources on learning chinese for business and coming up short. stuff like loans, taxes, accounting terms, municipality bonds, stocks, etc.
yes all children books about learning chinese are divided into radicals

I have a sudden urge to drive up to where you are and beat your nerd ass up.
I don't have any experience learning Chinese but this is exactly the kind of memorization that can be streamlined with spaced repetition. Anki is bretty gud.
Have you tried "integrated chinese"?
Not sure about the business stuff but you could just read the WSJ or New York Times Chinese versions. The NYT even has a great english-chinese side-by-side comparison, e.g.

to add, radicals are only good if you are learning simple characters
when it gets a bit more complicated the radicals usually have little to do with the meaning of the character, like 配, to match up, couple
the radical and the other part has nothing to do with the meaning or the sound, they just happen
also september is not 2 radicals they are 2 characters the 9(th) moon, a radical is a part of the character itself

like the work for argument is almost never used and 安 is actually a women below a roof

He might be from Midland

It's a good enough start for a complete beginner.
>安 is actually a women below a roof
You just need a bit of lateral thinking, f@m.
You guys have been super helpful, thanks!

You're right but I plan on leaving in a few years. I practically grew up in the house of a chinese friend so i've always been fascinated by the characters.
Does anyone know if these books any good? Maybe one is better than the other?:

As a Traditional Chinese user, we generally memorize the entire shape, not every part of a word.

head north to Chinada, I hear they can teach you to speak chinese

It was much easier to remember characters after I learned common ones and radicals. For example, 剪 is easier to remember if you know it's just 前 and 刀
