Why do so many Americans actually oppose raising the minimum wage?

Nigga I been had making that money.

"Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

AKA Americans are retarded children incapable of doing what's best for them.

If you raise minimum wage, fewer hires to compensate.
Lower minimum wage, lower living standard for those that have them.

You can't win.
>>
I consider poverty a mental illness, one that only the very stupid and lazy can contract. The world will be better off if everyone worth less than $50,000 by age 25 was culled.
>>
>>52156755
Personally I hate poor people.
>>
They also hate unions and believe that if business is good, the business owner will reward their workers instead of keeping the profits to themselves
>>
Why raise it?

Poor people are retarded

No, if a business is successful because of the value of its employees, those employees are more valuable and have the leverage to receive higher wages in the labor market.

The economic realities are universal in capitalism.

Raising the minimum wage is fine, but raising it to $15 is fucking retarded.

That would be higher than the real purchasing power peak in the late 60s, which pro-min. wage people like to point to as a golden era but was in fact completely unsustainable since Bretton Woods was about to collapse and the US lost its manufacturing competitiveness.

Why do you support it? There are lots of problems.

0) Some jobs are not worth the raise.
1) Some businesses can't afford it.
2) If people who used to make $10 now makes $15 an hour. What do you do with people who used to make $15? Give them a raise too (very expensive), or not do anything (make them angry at you and resent people who get a raise).
3) How do you keep people who really are worth $15 to not say fuck it, I will find an easier job that would just pay me the same amount?
4) It's not fair. $15/hour means different things in New York and Montana. Or even bumfuck NY State and NY, NY.

>crazy inequality
>little to none class mobility

Yea, you "earn" your wage.
>>
Because every time we do it companies just raise the price of their products to compensate.

The people who argue for higher minimum wage are retarded and cannot into economics or the social impact it causes. There's a reason everyone isn't being paid millions of dollars so everyone can be a millionaire.
>>
>>52156933
Say goodbye to the vast majority of the service industry, which is the largest economic sector here in the US

Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
>Top earners are now pulling in five times as much as those at the bottom and the wealthiest have 70 times the assets of the poorest, the Australian Council of Social Service says, as it calls for a stronger social safety net

Why's it this so hard for you to believe?

Wages aren't the issue in the US, we get paid well and have high purchasing power.

It's access to them that is an issue among racial boundaries.

Because the main groups who would benefit from it would actually just get replaced by computers/robots/illegal immigrants who will work for less than minimum wage.

MW was never supposed to be a career, just a job for teenagers and retired old people with nothing better to do.
>>
>>52157638
ny didn't get more expensive when they raised the minimum wage. i live here and shit got easier when they brought it up to 8.5. it was only a dollar increase but it helped a lot
>>
>>52157689
Honduras has an 85% confidence interval, that means that 85% of the population will be socially stagnant.

In the US, it's 45%, that's a massive difference already.
>>
If raise the minimum wage to 15$, then people who previously made 15$ will demand a raise for doing "harder than minimum wage" jobs for what is now minimum wage, and this will cycle up and up, causing prices to have to rise in order to pay people 15$, nothing will get fixed.
>>
>>52157835
>In the US, it's 45%, that's a massive difference already

Yes income inequality has increased since 2009 when...golly what happened that year?
>>
>>52157832
>ny didn't get more expensive when they raised the minimum wage.

That is a lie, my man. You didn't notice it did.
You can't just increase the minimum wage and call a problem fixed, you need to treat the cause not give a placebo. Look at Zimbabwe; they have a trillion dollar bill that's worth 1/3rd of a USD.
>>
>>52156755
Because most Americans understand economics, thankfully.
>>
>>52157908

It got more expensive due to gentrification, not due to minimum wage.
>>
>>52157906
I'm not saying it's good, but it's not stagnant either.
>>
>>52157908
i live upstate not in the city and shit stayed exactly where it was, my rent didn't increase, i was still spending 50 bucks a week on groceries internets still 50 bucks a month all like it has been for years. maybe shit got more expensive in nyc but thats because its nyc and shit is constantly getting more expensive there
>>
Because you can either have minimum wage or reasonable unemployment stats.
>>
>>52156755
I'd take a lower minimum wage if it meant I could get a job.
>>
>>52157816
>MW was never supposed to be a career, just a job for teenagers and retired old people with nothing better to do.

Wait. I thought the current conventional wisdom was that all those unemployed people should just swallow their pride and flip burgers until something better comes along (even though no one will hire someone so over-qualified for the job).

Unemployment benefits allow you to subsidize your minimum wage job with food stamps and Section 8 housing in most states.
