I lived there for 6 months for an internship. It was the happiest I have ever been in my life. The Japanese have built a perfect society with no crime, everyone is civil and well-mannered, everything is clean and alcohol is cheap.
Detractors and whiners will whine about the work culture, but I wouldn't mind working extra hours if it meant the wouldn't be covered in garbage anymore, the buildings would be clean of graffiti, the people would be polite, wait in line and mind their manners, and we wouldn't have to fear walking home at night because some of some melanin enriched individual lurking around.
