On the surface he was kind and charming, educated and polite. We shared everything together and slowly he'd start talking poorly of certain people. One of which he introduced to me. Said person was nice, just misguided and lonely. Ex talked so much crap about this person, about how he'd never amount to anything, he was a charity case, was a pig etc but when it was the three if us they were best mates, etc etc.
Then it went from talking about that person to how their sister was a whore and basically nothing nice to say about anybody. Started snapping at me little by little. He'd put me down for my economic background and education level, etc.
I confided in the friend asking if he'd always been like that, turns out he had but friend just dealt with it because he was alone. Ex had slowly gotten more and more ballsy with being a dick to him to his face which I'd noticed he was doing to me.
I said we were both worth more than that so we decided to break it off with him. The friend worked through his depression, now has a qt gf and is pursuing his dream that the ex said was stupid. ex is with some haggard looking fat chick last I heard.
I'm still friends with the friend, I'm proud of his progress, did much better when he got rid of somebody so toxic.
