Not exactly.
America is a young country with no history (I'm not banting or else, it's just regard to history, 200 years is very short), national legends or deep rooted culture. Moreover, USA due to the many immigration waves that had builded this country, has a very heteroclyte population, from different part of the world and so different culture.
Because of all those factors, the only way to build a stable country is to unite people under the same idea. For USA it's patriotism, the idea of greatness and powerfulness. Patriotism it's literraly the thread which hold the patchwerk of culture, race, religion in this country.
That's why everything related to the idea of USA and its power is almost sacred. The flag, the anthem, Founding Fathers, the US army...
If you want examples, just look every sport events : Even for small leagues or just USA/USA matches, it's always a deployment of USA symbols : flags, anthem, sometimes the US air force send a patrol over the stadium...
