Don't worry m8, once the meme hits tipping point the 4chan effect will come into play and there will be a decent Portugal appreciation thread. Probably made by a Canadian or something.

USA right now is more relevant than Portugal has ever been. Moortugal is so bad they even lost a war to poo-in-the-loos

Are you a genuine Lusophile or are you just an Alberto

The U.S did jack shit. The European scientists who fled Europe after WW2 did all of that.

>>
>>52112194
All of the United State's success is owed to the fact that they took in all of Europe's greatest minds, and that the rest of the world was either in rubble or communist.

Lad you are completely ignoring the time period from 1870 to before the second war

And what does that change? All that matters is the outcome and now American culture is more prevalent than any other has been.

I'm going to ignore those and focus on the technological advances and the fact that we were a neutral mediator in geopolitical deals,

The good thing about the Mexican war is it made France and the U.K think twice about outright invading us and the u.k rushed to settle land disputes peacefully.

No, they didn't. You weren't a threat to them, you just weren't the effort. India and Africa were cash cows, Australia was an empty continent. You were just not worth the effort to invade. If they wanted to invade you they could have.

>The U.S has influenced international law more times than Portugal ever has.

Here's just one example

The scholar of international law John Bassett Moore called this treaty "the greatest treaty of actual and immediate arbitration the world has ever seen." The so-called rules of Washington agreed upon by the contracting parties for the guidance of the tribunal in the interpretation of certain terms used in the treaty, and of certain principles of international law governing the obligations of neutrals, are:

That due diligence "ought to be exercised by neutral governments in exact proportion to the risks to which either of the belligerents may be exposed, from a failure to fulfill the obligations of neutrality on their part."
"The effects of a violation of neutrality committed by means of the construction, equipment, and armament of a vessel are not done away with by any commission which the government of the belligerent power benefited by the violation of neutrality may afterward have granted to that vessel; and the ultimate step by which the offense is completed cannot be admissible as a ground for the absolution of the, nor can the consummation of his fraud become the means of establishing his innocence."
"The principle of extraterritoriality has been admitted into the laws of nations, not as an absolute right, but solely as a proceeding founded on the principle of courtesy and mutual deference between different nations, and therefore can never be appealed to for the protection of acts done in violation of neutrality."[1]

Those rules affected the 1878 Congress of Berlin. Also, this precedent grew into the League of Nations and the United Nations.
