those silly murrkans who can't even use english properly

Americans use liberal to denote things that are authoritarian. Don't ask me.
>>
>>52106126
Americans are mentally retarded and are unable to grasp basic definitions. Make sure to use small words with them, otherwise they get upset, start shooting people, and die of a cheeseburger-induced heart attack.
>>
>>52106170
thanks
>>
>>52106191
It means left, to an extent. I've never seen Marxist leninists described as liberals, it only applies to the center left/social democrats
>>
>>52106297
I mean, I've never seen Marxist leninsts describe THEMSELVES as liberals. The only people that do that are the far right.

We use the word liberal to designate the left in America but in the rest of the world they use it to designate the right.
>>
>>52106510
It's called social liberalism
>>
>>52106510
Yeah, but only retards use it to describe the USSR. Most Americans can distinguish between Keynesian economics and social justice from the Soviet Union.
>>
>>52106250
totalitarian communism = liberal

fascism/national socialism = conservative

generally when talking about them we'd denote the specific government system but technically those would fall under liberal and conservative respectively

You're just talking about how others say this shit right. You don't actually believe that. You know what liberal and conservative mean right.

Hint: Both Totalitarian Communism and Fascism/NatSoc are neither Liberal nor Conservative.

Try anywhere else on mother Nature's earth.

>liberal means leftist economically.
Actually the right wing (e.g. free-marketeers) are often more liberal precisely because they have less regulation on the market.

>. who's dense now?
I would say you, but to be fair it isn't your fault American English is often retarded.

see we learn the exact same thing about governments in secondary school

the thing is, we will denote them most of the time as authoritarian, totalitarian, socialist, capitalist, progressive, libertarian etc etc instead of calling it liberal or conservative

Okay. Very broadly,

Upper left: totalitarian socialism (USSR)
Upper right: fascism
middle left: liberalism
middle right: conservatism
lower: various forms of libertarianism, communism and anarchy, depending on where, with a lot of overlap in some cases (left-liberalism, anarcho-communism, etc.)

Marxist Communism is pretty much all the way in the lower left corner, Marxist-Leninist-Stalinism is all the way in the upper left corner. National-Socialism and Fascism are upper right. We don't really have a good example of a lower right corner aside from some extreme Randists.

It represent nothing for the current generation, just a cool logo
>>
>>52107454
Where to place Fascism on the left/right spectrum isn't as clear cut as that. It arguably doesn't fit on the model at all.
>>
>>52107531
Fascism = totalitarianism + special snowflakes and muh heritage.
>>
>>52106951
>>52107079

"Liberal" means pretty much nothing in a vacuum.

You have classical liberalism, which is sort of like today's libertarianism (personal freedom, free trade, limited government), and what most of the world thinks when they hear liberal.

Then you have Neoliberalism, which is Thatcher-Reagan economic policies.

Then you have "socially liberal", which is signified as Social Democracy in most of the world, or "moderate left" if you'd like.

In America, Democrats are in general socially liberal (progressive stances on social issues) but economically not (welfare state), while Republicans are the opposite (strong traditionalist focus/Christian values, plus market deregulation and lower taxation).
>>
>>52107454
>degree in political science
i'm sorry.
>>
>>52107586
What I mean is fascist governments often seize the means of production. On the left/right scale they should be defined as left wing economically speaking.
>>
>>52107531
Absolutely, hence I started my post with "very broadly". Fascism had some extreme far-left economic influences (Nazi stands for National Socialism, after all), which complicates things. But they hated Communists and leftists. In general I would say it's definitely a right-wing concept, with an odd execution.

In case you aren't aware of the two-axis model other Anon and I are referring to, y axis (up-down) reflects authoritarianism levels, with all the way up meaning totalitarian state and all the way down meaning anarchy (roughly); while x-axis reflects economic policy
>>
>>52106473
it wasn't Jewish after Stalin and Hitler were done with it
>>
>>52105874
That's fucking modern art right there.

Then again, the actual Guy Fawkes was pretty much insane and a dick, so Idgaf.
>>
>>52107729
I am aware of the model. I would argue fascism is left wing (far left on the x axis), because fascist economies (like Nazi germany's) are self-sufficient and nationalised.
>>
>capitalism has co-opted the symbols of its rivals

How based
>>
>>52107862
On the dual-axis, maybe. On the commonly used single axis (which seems to take social policy as a preference in everyday life), they're definitely right wing (to this day, far-right groups are often described as Neo-Nazi).

Anarcho-Communist/Syndicalist and Anarcho Capitalist are both Liberal, both socially and one economically. When you say "liberalism" I think you really mean social democracy and democratic socialism which are pretty different since both advocate restrictions on certain freedoms, while relieving restrictions on other freedoms (ie. Citizenship rights are a-ok but have to acquire 47 different licenses to run your own business).

Tumblr/identity politics isn't liberalism and should just be ignored most of the time.
