Christianity thread – Discuss and ask questions about Christianity.

This isn't the thread for religious debate, otherwise all are welcome.

Matthew 22:35-39
>And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:
>Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
>Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.
>This is the greatest and the first commandment.
>And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

I'm Catholic and like the traditional, old style of language, so I use Douay-Rheims.
>>
>>52105533
I still prefer KJV, though I've never actually read the original KJV. Just the 1800s translation. I think a lot of things get lost in modern translations.

Why do you hang onto this parasitic foreign religion and not the one of your ancient ancestors?

>or better yet atheism
>>
>>52105614
Have you heard of The Message translation? It's probably the worst translation I've ever seen. The idea is that it gives you the general idea of what's going on, but in the process loses heaps of important details, and straight up misinterprets some parts.
>>
>>52105667
I haven't actually heard of that. It almost sounds like something the Jehovah's Witnesses would endorse.
>>
Who is your favourite saint, and why?

>Thomas More
English politician, lawyer, and very well known saint. He was a very well-educated man whose morals and principles were important to him. He is also known for his book, Utopia, which presented More's idea of a perfect world.

I was going to post this here >>52105510

HEY YOU KNOW WHAT'S BETTER THAN CHRISTIANITY?
NOT BEING RETARDED
>>
>>52105767
Should also probably add how he died, can't believe I forgot lol.
>Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife, though the Church forbade this
>Thomas More advised him against it and refused to make exceptions for the king
>Was beheaded for his beliefs, and the Church of England was founded

In all seriousness, what is Christianity like in Poland? Do most people go to church? I know Catholicism is the majority, but how much do you see this influence culture and life?
>>
>>52105412
Is there any hope for Christianity in Australia?
>>
>>52105952
we go to church on Christmas and Easter other than that most people are about as religious as everywhere else - not at all and vast majority of church teachings is completly ignored people just want a free ticket to heaven or throw occasional Bible verse when they want to bash other religion or push their agenda
so yeah us being some kind of zealots is pretty much a meme

Catholicism still makes up 25.3% of the population, and then there's like another 30% Anglican and other Protestant. So we're far from gone, but I live in Melbourne where bearded Fitzroy coffee-drinking Melbourne Uni hipsters are protesting every waking minute on Princes Bridge, and people are committing arson attacks on Catholic churches that happened to have pedophiles working at them like fifty years ago.
So I don't know.

But apart from those types of people, Christianity is fairly normal and your local church has families showing up to it, so it depends where you look.

>Catholicism still makes up 25.3% of the population, and then there's like another 30% Anglican and other Protestant. So we're far from gone.

But the ages seem to be going the otherway with churchs greying a whole lot. Tradtional protestants seem to being declining the fastest or all.

Unless you go to a cookier protestant church it mostly seems to be old people with a baby here and there.

how is it going to get better?

why is paganism so much better than semitic """""""""""""""""""""""""""""religions"""""""""""""""”"""”""""""""""?
>>
>>52106265
the better question is why pagans conviniently forget the human sacrifice part a lot of pagan religions including asatru had? Don't have the balls to fully commit?
>>
>>52106221
I care most about Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Anglicanism too I guess. In Australia, Orthodoxy is really small anyway. Catholicism is still large, there are churches all over the place. Anglicanism I care about because this country was built on it, and it carries cultural significance. Protestants like the Uniting Church, Lutherans and non-Uniting Presbyterians are alright, I mean if their heart is in the right place then they are Christians.

See it not as people becoming less-Christian, but as the revealing of the real Christians - people who actually care about their faith beyond culture.

I'm a Christian, but I find the 4chan (especially /pol/'s) version of """"Christianity"""" awful. Most people are just wannabee crusader roleplayers who autistically argue about why x denomination is wrong, and then they go fap to anime porn and make a thread about why having children is awful and how much they hate black people. There are some good discussions on /his/, where I think this thread belongs. /int/ is for banter, /pol/ is autism containment zone, /his/ is now where religion threads belong and I like it that way.

>DEUS VULT am I right guys?
They're retarded, and almost always not even Christians. Just atheists who think it's cool and noble to (pretend to) devote your life to your God.
If they think it's cool to believe in God and be really religious, they can feel free to attend church every week, pray and making their sacraments, and read theology as a pastime. Not pretend they'd die for a religion they don't believe in.

Mesoamerican pagan religions like Aztec sun worshippers did indeed sacrifice people.
>>

There is a Latin Rite church in Caulfield that I've been meaning to visit. I've never been to a pre-Vatican II service so I'm really interested. I have been to a Byzantine Rite Catholic church, how similar is it to that?
>>
>>52107061
that was a convenient tool to subjugate non aztec ethnicities under the guise of religious practice
give me one instance of gaelic human sacrifice
>>
>>52106578
>See it not as people becoming less-Christian, but as the revealing of the real Christians - people who actually care about their faith beyond culture.

Yeah but Catholics and Orthodox are pretty bad at that as well, their bible study and submission to Christ is also kinda lacking. Honestly they just seem to coasting on intertia with members being members because of their grandparents rather than conviction.
>>
>>52107061
also, even if it were true, tell me the last time you sacrificed a goat to jehovah
>>
>>52107164
I'm a Christian, I don't have to sacrifice anything. Jesus Christ Himself was the ultimate Passover lamb.

>>52107195
why do christians capitalize pronouns in that annoying way

>>52107131
Thousand year old bodies and skeletons have been discovered in the U.K. and Ireland with decorations and causes of death consistent with historians' general idea of the human sacrifice performed by Celtic and Gaelic pagans.

>>52107241
It's out of reverence, it deserves a capital letter because it's an important word.
