What do you think German sounds like?

Do you consider it a beautiful language?
>>
Just ugly.
>>
>>52047715

Why is that?
>>
>>52047641
Sounds very angry and commanding, but I speak german myself so I'm probably biased.
>>
>>52047715

>>
it's a very well strucktured language, perfect for work and philosophy

it's bad for emotions and art though
>>
yes, it's a a beautiful language to me. it sounds very clean and annunciated.
>>
When spoken by women makes my d hard, when spoken by men it sounds like a language for jerks.

My cousin speaks German but when she's with her husband she says that she only speaks in Portuguese and ask him to do so 'cos when he is speaking in German he is an asshole

Also, /r/ some German 52035081

I don't think anybody actually speaks it. Even if there are regions where you could think they do, there a always little things that make it different from Hochdeutsch.

Do you speak swedish? Sure, Swedish is beautiful too but with German I think it's the fact that I can just barely understand it that makes it more beautiful.

but that's where german shines
>>
I like it. I start learning it next semester and chose it over French and Spanish (more choices but none that offer basic up to intermediate).

Any advice for learning it? English is my native and only language.
>>
>>52048952

German is a language like a law code, you have an awful lot of rules, UNLESS there is some exception or twist, in which case you have to use one of the exceptional forms.

And, you guessed it, there's also one hell of a lot of these.

Yes, mainly how it's structured. It's considered the language of thought, since some compound words are short, while their English versions require a longer explanation.

totschwiegen in English is the act of keeping something secret under wraps until the very idea of it dies.

Forgot the entire word (Kadaver- ) but it was the act of being so loyal to someone that you still follow them after their death.

Just super interesting, since so much German literature isn't artsy in its diction like English or Latin languages, but rather the thought behind the words.
>>
In my opinion German is a beautiful language. Polish is disgusting
>>
German is beautiful. I don't get why people insist on calling it ugly and harsh while insisting that French or Spanish are beautiful and sexy when they pretty much have the same amount of gluttural sounds.
>>
>>52047641
It is beautiful, even though it has to be pronounced correctly in order to sound so.

You mean enriched. English's fuckhuge lexicon is owed directly to the fact that the British Isles were constantly being invaded and raped by foreigners for all history before the year 1066. We have the cocks of Lucius and Pierre to thank directly for the tremendous range of expression which coalesced to comprise the works of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Milton, &c.

Is very widely spread. Of course there is some admixture of local dialects but 95% of people can speak hochdeutsch very well especially younger people.
Also it depends a lot on context, like you wouldn't use dialect when talking to an international student, or when giving a presentation, or even talking to people from different parts of the country but within a group of friends who speak the same dialect you might.

Funnily, "Schmetterling" is closer to "Butterfly" in meaning than many other german words compared to their english counterparts.
It comes from "schmetten" which was a mid-german word for fat creme and comes from the assumption that witches transformed into butterflies to steal all the milk and cheese
>>
ITT People projecting German stereotypes on the language

To all who think German sounds harsh and rough U have two arguments:
1. Foreigners who speak it, usually put a lot of emphasis on the vocals and the Ch and R because they think its supposed to sounds harsh. Therefore non-natives usually sound much much harsher talking German than actual Germans
2. German did not evolve to be a precise harsh and militaric language. This idea only developed during the late 19th century due to the German empire and ongoing Prussian militarism and propaganda against the harsh barbaric hunn. Before the middle of the 9th century, German was seen as the language of the thinker and poet.

I just don't get why so many people think german is that orderly and harsh. Of course it's not as soft as Italian, but Spanish, French etc. also have many rough and hard sounds. German actually is a very romantic and poetic language with lots of words with beautiful meanings that other languages don't have.

Ich weiß nicht wie ich es beschreiben soll. Ich mag die schriftliche Sprache sehr und das mündliche Sprache klingt okay (ich verweise an Hochdeutsch).

Deutsch hat ja viele unterschiedliche Dialekte und einige von ihnen klingen besser als die anderen.

Die Grammatik ist logischer als die norwegische und die englische. Habe keine besonderen Ausnahmen gefunden, während ich die Sprache gelernt habe. Norwegisch hat mehr von denen.
