I rather like schengen, as a tourist. One time I flew over to Britain, got my passport checked as I took the Chunnel to France, and then didn't have my passport checked again until I'd reached the Serbian border. It made travel much less bothersome, and made Europe feel more... I don't want to say 'open', but I'm trying to imagine redoing that trip with guards up at every border and augh fuck that, I probably would have bailed by the time I reached Austria.
