Whenever I end up on the East Coast of the US in the summer. They hibernate for many years, then crawl up onto trees, break out of their exoskeleton, and make a mating noise that is really deafening when there are a bunch of them together. Cicadas practice a really interesting survival strategy; there are so many of them when they emerge from the ground that their predators become engorged, leaving the rest safe and free to mate.

we used to have an aquarium with neon tetras and one day we installed two units of some different kind. The two bastards first hazed all the neon lads when feeding, then all the time, eventually they killed them all, then turned against each other. Their fins were constantly bloody and it seemed that they never stopped fighting. Every single time you looked through the glass, they were chasing each other.
Might have been more of a territorial issue than gluttony, but they were disgustingly fat.
Best thing we had in that aquarium were carps though, we found the little things in a puddle after floods, most no more than 2 cm long, so we took them home and while they ate like mad, they never grew in size much, because they didn't have the space. It was interesting to see that they began growing again, when we released them to a friend's garden pond.

Ahahaha, my family had a tropical freshwater tank as well and had similar issues, but mostly with mollies and eels. Never saw any neon tetras eating each other, though, even though we had a few. Aren't they school fish? Maybe they're more aggressive in Slovakia.

There are things I miss about being that age for sure; the sense of wonder, better physical fitness, full head of hair, not being jaded and cynical, lots of friends to spend time with, weekly house parties etc.
After I graduated everyone went their own way and I barely ever see anyone I went to school with. But I still wouldn't go back, I feel like as I get older I'm gaining a new appreciation for life and all the things I used to take for granted.
