Why is there so much self-hate among Germans?
I encounter a lot of internationals through my work and I've noticed that Germans are the only ones that actively expresses shame in their home country. One colleague said there is nothing in Germany you can find that is better than the USA. I am quite shocked, even though I do believe America is the greatest nation on earth, I am sure you can find SOMETHING in Germany that is better. Another said the only thing that makes her less ashamed about being German was Merkel's welcoming policies to the refugees.
Is this all a facade? I can hardly believe a nation that not so long ago believed they were the master race can be so inflicted with self-hate within a couple of generations.

As an American in Denmark, I hear that a lot. I don't think its so much an act of self-hate but an act of love towards America.
